Daytime television will never be the same...the passing of Jeanne Cooper on May 8th got me to thinking about all the seasoned actors that appeared on soaps during their early days.  Sadly they have all left us now...here is a look back at these wonderful performers.

From "As The World Turns" they were the couple that started it all...

Don MacLaughlin (1906-1986) as Chris Hughes who appeared from the show's beginning in 1956 until his passing in 1986.

Helen Wagner (1918-2010) as Nancy Hughes who also appeared from the beginning in 1956 and remained until her passing in 2010. 

From "Days of Our Lives"

Macdonald Carey (1913-1994) as Dr. Tom Horton from the show's beginning in 1965 until his passing in 1994. 

Frances Reid (1914-2010) as Alice Horton from the show's beginning in 1965 until 2007.

From "All My Children"

Ruth Warrick (1916-2005) as Phoebe Tyler Wallingford from the show's beginning until her passing in 2005. 

Eileen Herlie (1918-2008) as Myrtle Fargate from 1976 until her passing in 2008.

From "General Hospital"

David Lewis (1916-2000) as Edward Quartermaine from 1978-1989, 1991-1993 and John Ingle (1928-2012) as Edward from 1993-2004, 2006-2012. 

Anna Lee (1913-2004) as Lila Quartermaine from 1978 until 2003.

From "The Young and the Restless"

Jeanne Cooper (1928-2013) as Katherine Chancellor Sterling Murphy..she joined the show six months after it began in 1973 and remained until her passing in 2013. 

All these people were the hearts and minds of the shows they were on and their fans will never forget them.  "General Hospital", "Days of Our Lives" and "The Young and the Restless" are still with us, reflecting the legacy their lost characters have left behind.  "As The World Turns" is gone and "All My Children" is now on the internet...memories though, never go away.

Remembering the Cast of "Make Room for Daddy" / "The Danny Thomas Show" (583)

It was one of the longest running family sitcoms in television history.  Right there along side "I Love Lucy", "The Honeymooners", "Father Knows Best" and "My Little Margie" it was one of the most beloved programs of the day.  It began on ABC as "Make Room for Daddy" on September 29, 1953.  After 120 episodes the title changed to "The Danny Thomas Show" and in 1957 the program moved to CBS.  After a healthy eleven year run the show ended on April 27, 1964 after producing 351 episodes total.  In 1970 a majority of the cast returned for the show "Make Room for Granddaddy" which lasted from 1970 to 1971 producing 24 episodes.  The cast was headed up by Danny Thomas who played nightclub entertainer Danny Williams.  Jean Hagen played his wife Margaret, Rusty Hamer played his son Rusty and Sherry Jackson played his daughter Terry.  Jackson played Terry from 1953 to 1958 followed by Penny Parker who played the role from

Doris Packer (May 30, 1904 - March 31, 1979)

She began in New York on Broadway and then started appearing on radio. Some of her radio credits include "Henry Aldrich" and "Mr. & Mrs. North." When she became a widow in 1953 she relocated to California where she began appearing on film and on television. Her first film was Meet Me at the Fair. She also appeared in The Perils of Pauline in 1967. She is best remembered as Mrs. Cornelia Rayburn, Beaver's Principal on "Leave it to Beaver." She also had a recurring role on "The Many Loves of Dobie Gillis." Her final film appearance was in Shampoo in 1975...
