This Looks Like a Job For...

The first person to give the Man of Steel a voice passed away on this day in 1969. 

Born: June 18, 1908

He provided the voice of Superman/Clark Kent on the radio program from 1940 to 1950.  Between 1941 and 1943 he also voiced the character in 16 animated shorts produced by the Fleischer studios.

On television his main claim to fame was as the host of the game shows:
"Break the $250,000 Bank (1948-1953)
"Beat the Clock" (1950-1961)  
"To Tell the Truth" (1956-1968)

He also made guest appearances on "I've Got a Secret" and "What's My Line?"  In 1954, he appeared as himself on "The Jackie Gleason Show" in an episode that featured Ralph (Jackie Gleason) and Alice (Audrey Meadows) and later Ed Norton (Art Carney) appearing on "Beat the Clock."

In 1966, he returned to voice Superman/Clark Kent in a new animated series.  He continued to voice the character on various versions of the show until 1968.  He passed away much to young at the age of only 61.

Remembering the Cast of "Make Room for Daddy" / "The Danny Thomas Show" (583)

Doris Packer (May 30, 1904 - March 31, 1979)

She began in New York on Broadway and then started appearing on radio. Some of her radio credits include "Henry Aldrich" and "Mr. & Mrs. North." When she became a widow in 1953 she relocated to California where she began appearing on film and on television. Her first film was Meet Me at the Fair. She also appeared in The Perils of Pauline in 1967. She is best remembered as Mrs. Cornelia Rayburn, Beaver's Principal on "Leave it to Beaver." She also had a recurring role on "The Many Loves of Dobie Gillis." Her final film appearance was in Shampoo in 1975...
