Sidney Toler

Born: April 28, 1874 This gentleman was a wonderful film actor from 1929 to 1947...he is best remembered for his role as the great detective Charlie Chan in more than 20 motion pictures between 1938 and 1947. Some of the films include Charlie Chan in Honolulu in 1938, Charlie Chan in Reno, Charlie Chan at Treasure Island, and Charlie Chan in City in Darkness all in 1939. In 1946 the actor became ill but still managed to complete the films Dark Alibi, Dangerous Money and The Trap. The Trap, released in 1947, was the final Charlie Chan motion picture to feature the actor he was suffering from cancer during filming and then passed away on February 12, 1947.
