Frank Nelson (May 6, 1911 – September 12, 1986)

A special thanks to http://www.dannythestreet.com/franknelson/ for helping me with the research for this man’s radio career…. His first film appearance was to have been in 1936’s Fugitive in the Sky but his scenes were deleted from the final cut. His major contribution to the entertainment world was on radio. He lent his voice to MANY programs, all of them the best. It has been noted that he made more than 10,000 guest appearances on various programs during his career. “Lux Radio Theater” (announcer for two years) “My Favorite Husband” “Our Miss Brooks” “Yours Truly, Johnny Dollar” “The George Burns & Gracie Allen Show” “Amos ‘N’ Andy” “The Walter Winchell Show” “The Eddie Cantor Show” “Lum ‘N Abner” “The Hedda Hopper Show” “Fibber McGee & Molly” “Kay Kyser’s Kollege” “The Great Gildersleeve” “The Red Skelton Show” “The Life of Riley” “The Dinah Shore Show” “The Joan Davis Show” “The Danny Kaye Show” “The Billie Burke Show” “The Eddie Bracken Show” “The Jack Carson Show” “The Saint” “The Fannie Brice Show” “The Abbott & Costello Show” “Duffy’s Tavern” “The Alan Young Show” “The Bob Hope Show” “My Friend Irma” As television became more and more popular he began to make frequent appearances. His relationship with “The Jack Benny Program” spanned over 38 years. His famous catchphrase was turning around saying “Yeeeesssss?” He is also very well remembered for his work with Lucille Ball. He appeared several times on her radio series “My Favorite Husband.” On television he made several appearances on “I Love Lucy.” He played television personality Freddie Filmore in three episodes, Hollywood talent scout Ben Benjamin in one episode, Police Sergeant Nelson in one episode, a Customs Inspector in one episode, a waiter in one episode, a frazzled train conductor in one episode and Connecticut neighbor Ralph Ramsey in two episodes. He also made one appearance with the Redhead on “Westinghouse Desilu Playhouse” and “The Lucy Show.” His other television credits include (this list is incomplete): “The Colgate Comedy Hour” “The Betty White Show” “Saturday Night Live” “The Adventures of Ozzie & Harriet” “Our Miss Brooks” “Private Secretary” “Make Room for Daddy” “Mister Magoo” “The Real McCoys” “Calvin and the Colonel” “The Flintstones” “Pete and Gladys” “The Jetsons” “The New Phil Silvers Show” “The Addams Family” “Petticoat Junction” “The Oddball Couple” “Sanford and Son” “Alice” In 1986 he appeared in his final film The Malibu Bikini Shop. His final television role was a voice over on the cartoon “Foofur.” The episode originally aired on November 22, 1986, two months after the actor’s death… He was a brilliant man…he had a tremendous talent and a great gift for comedy…he was a star in his own right… In Memoriam Remembers: Frank Nelson
