Ed Begley (March 25, 1901 - April 28, 1970)

A delightful character actor...he made his Broadway debut at the age of 5! He began in films in 1947 and some of his more notable ones include Sorry, Wrong Number, The Great Gatsby, 12 Angry Men, Hang 'Em High, The Dunwich Horror and Road to Salina. He made his rounds on radio as well appearing on such programs as "Lux Radio Theatre" and "Our Miss Brooks." One of his appearances on the "Lux Radio Theatre" included a reprisal of his role in Sorry, Wrong Number opposite Barbara Stanwyck and Burt Lancaster. On television he guest starred on several television programs including "Toast of the Town", "Pantomime Quiz", "I've Got a Secret", "Lights Out", "Danger", "The Philip Morris Playhouse", "The Motorola Television Hour", "Robert Montgomery Presents", "Kraft Television Theatre", "Goodyear Television Playhouse", "Climax!", "Westinghouse Desilu Playhouse", "The United States Steel Hour", "The Defenders", "The Dick Powell Show", "Route 66", "Ben Casey", "Wagon Train", "Rawhide", "The Alfred Hitchcock Hour", "The Dick Van Dyke Show", "Dr. Kildare", "The Fugitive", "Burke's Law", "The F.B.I.", "The Virginian", "Bob Hope Presents the Chrysler Theatre", "Bonanza", "The Lucy Show", "The Wild Wild West", "Gunsmoke", "My Three Sons", "The Mod Squad" and "The Ghost & Mrs. Muir." In 1952 he had a regular role on the sitcom "Leave it to Larry" which starred Eddie Albert. Also that year he began appearing on the daytime soap opera "The Guiding Light." His final acting role was a guest appearance on the series "The Name of the Game" which originally aired on April 10, 1970. A total professional...he was the father of actor Ed Begley, Jr. who rose to fame for his work on the 1980's medical drama "St. Elsewhere." In Memoriam Remembers: Ed Begley
