Dinah Shore (February 29, 1916 - February 24, 1994)

One of America's greatest treasures....Ms. Dinah Shore.
Dinah Shore entranced audiences with her wonderful voice....wrapped with that southern accent. She first appeared in experimental television in 1936. In 1939 she began on radio as a vocalist and eventually became a featured vocalist on "The Chamber Music Society of Lower Basin Street" in February 1940. Her singing talent eventually lead to her producing records in 1941. She appeared in a handful of films beginning in 1944. In 1951 she began her duties as the host of "The Dinah Shore Show" which allowed her to show her talents in variety. In 1956 the show was retitled "The Dinah Shore Chevy Show" and remained on the air until 1963. In 1950 she appeared with Bob Hope on his very first television special. Among her many television guest appearances she appeared on "The Ed Wynn Show", "The Jack Benny Program", "The Colgate Comedy Hour", "Person to Person", "The Steve Allen Show", "Make Room for Daddy", "The Danny Kaye Show", "What's My Line?", "The Dean Martin Show", "Toast of the Town", "Rowan & Martin's Laugh-In", "Here's Lucy", "The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson", "The Sonny and Cher Show", "The Carol Burnett Show", "Alice", "Disneyland", "Letter to Loretta", "Hotel" and "Murder, She Wrote." The 1970's introduced Shore to a whole new generation of fans. In 1970 she began hosting "Dinah's Place", a daily talk show. In 1974 the show was renamed "Dinah!" and then in 1979 it was renamed again this time called "Dinah! and Friends." It remained on the air until 1980. For eight weeks during the summer of 1976 Shore hosted a program called "Dinah and her New Best Friends." From 1989 to 1992 she host her final talk program "A Conversation with Dinah" which featured Shore one on one with the guest and without a studio audience. In 1991 she returned to the Grand Ole Opry for the first time since 1931 in the special "Dinah Comes Home." Dinah Shore entertained everyone with great warmth and humor. In a career that spanned more than 60 years and dozens of screen appearances Shore's legacy will always be her bright smile and wonderful singing voice.

Remembering the Cast of "Make Room for Daddy" / "The Danny Thomas Show" (583)

Doris Packer (May 30, 1904 - March 31, 1979)

She began in New York on Broadway and then started appearing on radio. Some of her radio credits include "Henry Aldrich" and "Mr. & Mrs. North." When she became a widow in 1953 she relocated to California where she began appearing on film and on television. Her first film was Meet Me at the Fair. She also appeared in The Perils of Pauline in 1967. She is best remembered as Mrs. Cornelia Rayburn, Beaver's Principal on "Leave it to Beaver." She also had a recurring role on "The Many Loves of Dobie Gillis." Her final film appearance was in Shampoo in 1975...
