His first try at a sitcom was in 1952 with the series "Leave it to Larry" which also starred veteran actor Ed Begley. The show didn't last much longer than one season. It was "Green Acres" in 1965 that made the actor a true television star. Starring as Oliver Wendell Douglas opposite Eva Gabor as his wife Lisa, the show ran from 1965 to 1971 and produced more than 165 episodes. He also appeared on sister shows "Petticoat Junction" and "The Beverly Hillbillies" as Oliver between 1965 and 1968. From 1975 to 1978 he played the role of Frank McBride on "Switch" starring Robert Wagner. In 1987, he had a brief recurring role as the villianous Carlton Travis on the prime time soap opera "Falcon Crest." His time on "Falcon Crest" allowed him to once again act with his good friend Jane Wyman whom he first worked with in the film Brother Rat in 1938. His final acting role was as the voice of Ben on an episode of "Extreme Ghostbusters" in 1997.
