Good Bye, Carolyn Appleby (582)

Born: September 28, 1919

On radio her voice could be heard right next to such talents as Burns and Allen, Bob Hope and Jack Benny.  She played several different roles on "Our Miss Brooks" including Mrs. Martha Conklin, wife of Principal Conklin (Gale Gordon).  It was on the radio show "My Favorite Husband" that she first worked with Lucille Ball.

Her "I Love Lucy" character was originally called Lillian but the name was changed to Carolyn by her second appearance.  She would go on to appear in such classic episodes as "Lucy Tells the Truth", "Baby Pictures", "Harpo Marx", "The Dancing Star" and "Lucy and Superman."  She also appeared on Ball's later sitcoms, two episodes of "The Lucy Show" and four episodes of "Here's Lucy."  In 1973 she played Ball's good friend in a Bob Hope Christmas special and her final appearance with Ball was in the special "Lucy Moves to NBC" in 1980.

In 1976 she appeared briefly on the daytime soap "Days of Our Lives."  Her other TV credits include:

Her final acting role was in the 1985 TV movie "Deadly Messages."  She continued to appear at award shows, retrospectives, interviews and most any other program that featured memories of her time in television.  She passed away on June 26, 2012...
