Born: March 13, 1929
This is one of those posts I truly regret having to write. I've admired this actor for about fourteen years now since he provided the voice of the villianous Farmer Brown in an episode of "The New Batman Adventures."
His first film appearance was uncredited in Thunder Road in 1958. His first screen credit didn't come until The Beatniks in 1960.
In 1956 he made his first appearance on television in an episode of "Sheriff of Cochise" playing a character named Doyle Ranker. He would later reprise the role on an episode of "U.S. Marshal." From 1959 to 1960 he appeared on the series "Black Saddle" and from 1960 to 1962 he appeared on "Maverick." In 1965 he began playing the role that earned him a place in television history. "The Big Valley" starring Barbara Stanwyck, Richard Long, Linda Evans and Lee Majors ran until 1969. His character, Nick Barkley, was the hot headed middle son who was also lucky with the ladies.
Other television appearances include:
"The Gray Ghost"
"The Court of Last Resort"
"Highway Patrol"
"Wagon Train"
"Zane Grey Theater"
"Sea Hunt"
"77 Sunset Strip"
"Gunsmoke"
"Bonanza"
"Perry Mason"
"The Virginian"
"Mission: Impossible"
"McMillan & Wife"
"The Six Million Dollar Man"
"Vega$"
"The Incredible Hulk"
"The Dukes of Hazzard"
"Fantasy Island"
"General Hospital"
"The Fall Guy" (appeared in four episodes, one as Nick Barkley)
"L.A. Heat"
In 1963 he appeared in an episode of "The Outer Limits" - he would later appeared in a 1996 episode of the show's revival. He is one of only five actors to appear on both versions the others being Leonard Nimoy, David McCallum, Ciff Robertson and Barbara Rush.
His final television appearance was on "John Doe" in 2002 and his final film appearance was in Jiminy Glick in Lalawood in 2004. After suffering from dementia for several years he was finally set free of his suffering on February 6, 2012.
