Madelyn Pugh Davis

Born: March 15, 1921 The other half of one of the most successful writing duos has passed away. She began writing for "The Steve Allen Show" on radio and eventually found herself working on a domestic sitcom called "My Favorite Husband." The program starred Lucille Ball with Richard Denning. Jess Oppenheimer and Bob Carroll, Jr. were the writers that helped put the scripts together. Eventually they molded the television show "I Love Lucy" and would go onto write for Ball on her other series "The Lucille Ball-Desi Arnaz Show", "The Lucy Show", "Here's Lucy" and "Life with Lucy." In 1967 she and Bob Carroll Jr. went to work for Ball's ex-husband Desi Arnaz on the sitcom "The Mothers-In-Law" starring Eve Arden and Kaye Ballard. The show ran for two seasons and produced 56 episodes. The writing duo also wrote scripts for "The Tom Ewell Show", "Love, American Style", "The Paul Lynde Show", "One Life to Live", "Sanford and Son" and "Alice" the latter they also co-produced. Other work for Lucille Ball included drafting the screenplay for the film Yours, Mine and Ours in which Ball co-starred along side Henry Fonda in 1968. They also wrote the script for the 1977 TV special "Lucy Calls the President." In 1967 they were unsuccessful in selling a pilot for "The Carol Channing Show." She passed away on April 20, 2011...the world has lost a pioneer in television writing. In Memoriam Remembers: Madelyn Pugh Davis
