Kevin McCarthy

Born: February 15, 1914 I write this with a great deal of saddness. This wonderful character actor left us this past Saturday at the age of 96...he had 204 acting credits to his name. He appeared on film, Broadway and television as well as lending his voice to radio... His most memorable film of course was 1956's Invasion of the Body Snatchers. He became a hero to all sci-fi fans. The 1978 remake of film appropriately included a cameo by the actor who made the film part of the cinema history...some other film credits include the screen version of Death of a Salesman and The Twilight Zone: The Movie. His very first film was 1944's Winged Victory, however the actor did not receive screen credit... On the stage he became well known for his twenty year run as President Harry Truman in the one man show "Give 'Em Hell Harry." He first appeared on television on "The Ford Theatre Hour" in 1949. He appeared in the screen version of The Man Who Came to Dinner. He went onto appear on some of television's earliest television shows such as "Lights Out", "The Gulf Playhouse", "Kraft Theatre", "G.E. True Theater", "Climax!", "Sunday Showcase" and "The DuPont Show with June Allyson." Other television credits include (incomplete): "The Twilight Zone" "Ben Casey" "The United States Steel Hour" "The Rifleman" "The Defenders" "The Alfred Hitchcock Hour" "Honey West" "Bob Hope Presents the Chrysler Theatre" "The F.B.I." "Julia" "Mission: Impossible" "Columbo" "Flamingo Road" (regular role 1980-1982) "Amanda's" "The Love Boat" "Fantasy Island" "Dynasty" "Scarecrow and Mrs. King" "Hotel" "The Golden Girls" "The Colbys" "In the Heat of the Night" "China Beach" "Murder, She Wrote" "Batman: The Animated Series" "The District" He also appeared in several made for television movies in 1980's and 1990's... His final television role was in 2005 on "Eyes" and his final film role was in 2009's Wesley... A wonderful actor (I have his autograph) and a great man...! The good ones are leaving us much too quickly... In Memoriam Remembers: Kevin McCarthy
