J. Pat O'Malley

Born: March 15, 1904 He was a fine character actor that only added a great deal to everything he took part in. Born in London he began performing in British muscial halls. He arrived in America just as WWII broke out, making his first film appearance in 1943's Lassie Come Home... In the 1940's and 1950's and he made several appearances on Broadway... It was television though where he found his true home making over one hundred guest appearances... My particular favorites are his appearances on "The Andy Griffith Show" and "Maude." On "The Andy Griffith Show" he portrayed a smooth talking con man who attempted to swiddle Barney's landlady Mrs. Mandelbright (Enid Markey) out of her life savings...of course Sheriff Andy (Andy Griffith) and Deputy Barney (Don Knotts) save the day... On "Maude" he played Bert Beasley...at first he was introduced as a graveyard nightwatchmen who knew Dr. Arthur Harmon (Conrad Bain). Later he was introduced to Maude's (Beatrice Arthur) crude British housekeeper Mrs. Nell Naugatuck and romance flared up. By the beginning of Season 6 Mrs. Naugatuck became Bert's wife. At the end of the season however, Mrs. Naugatuck and Bert were off to Ireland to care for Bert's elderly mother...by the time of his final appearance the actor had appeared in nine episodes... His final acting role was on an episode of "Taxi" which originally aired on May 6, 1982... The actor passed away on February 27, 1985...he had 221 screen credits to his name. His other television credits include (incomplete): "Kraft Theatre" "Playhouse 90" "The Real McCoys" "Maverick" "The Danny Thomas Show" "Alfred Hitchcock Presents" "Hennesey" "The Untouchables" "Bachelor Father" "Peter Loves Mary" "Lassie" "Peter Gunn" "The Defenders" "Perry Mason" "The Lloyd Bridges Show" "Ben Casey" "The Andy Griffith Show" "Dr. Kildare" "The Dick Van Dyke Show" "Wagon Train" "The Twilight Zone" "My Three Sons" "Suspense" "My Favorite Martian" "Burke's Law" "Honey West" "F-Troop" "The Farmer's Daughter" "Please Don't Eat the Daisies" "Bewitched" "The Man from U.N.C.L.E."
