This Times the Angels Say Hello...

When I learned of this man's passing I was extremely upset. This late great actor was one of my personal favorites and someone who was involved in film and television from the earliest days. Born: January 29, 1918 ----- He left us on April 1, 2010 He began on Broadway in the 1940's and made occasional appearances until the 1960's. His first film was in 1943. Some of his more notable films were The Trouble with Harry and Topaz both for Alfred Hitchcock. He headed up his first television show in 1957. The series was "Bachelor Father" and it remained on the air until 1962...the next series was called "The John Forsythe Show" and it ran from 1965 to 1966...in 1969 he began a run on "To Rome with Love" which ended in 1971... Television guest appearances include (incomplete): "Toast of the Town" "The Jack Benny Program" "Pantomime Quiz" "Password" "The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson" "The Hollywood Squares" "Robert Montgomery Presents" "Lights Out" "Suspense" "The Philco Television Playhouse" "The United States Steel Hour" "Studio One" "Alfred Hitchcock Presents" "General Electric Theater" "Climax!" "The Alfred Hitchcock Hour" "The Dick Powell Show" "Bob Hope Presents the Chrysler Theatre" "The Red Skelton Show" "Police Story" "The Love Boat" "The Colbys" In 1976 he began playing the often heard but unseen Charlie Townsend on the detective series "Charlie's Angels" which featured Farrah Fawcett, Kate Jackson, David Doyle, Jaclyn Smith, Shelley Hack, Tanya Roberts and Cheryl Ladd...the show lasted until 1981. From January of 1981 until April of 1981 he did double duty playing both Charlie Townsend and a brand new role - oil tycoon Blake Carrington on a new prime time soap opera called "Dynasty." "Dynasty" began on January 12, 1981 and went on to have an incredible run. Working along his side were Linda Evans, Joan Collins, Pamela Sue Martin, Lee Bergere, Emma Samms, John James, Diahann Carroll, Lloyd Bochner and Michael Nader just to name a few. "Dynasty" left the air on May 10, 1989 after nine seasons... In 1992 he took another crack at sitcoms in "The Powers that Be." Holland Taylor played his wife and Cloris Leachman guest starred as his mother...unfortunately that was not enough and the show ended in 1993 after only one season... In 2000 he came out of semi-retirement to reprise his role as Charlie Townsend in the motion picture version of "Charlie's Angels." His final acting role was once again as Charlie in 2003's Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle... In Memoriam Remembers: John Forsythe
