Barbara Britton (September 26, 1919 - January 17, 1980)

This delightful B-movie star did a wonderful job of lighting up the screen and making everyone fall for her gentle performances... She appeared in more than 25 films her first being Secret of the Wastelands in 1941 and her final being The Spoilers in 1955...Her stage work began in the 1940's and lasted up through the mid-1970's. On television she appeared on such programs as "The George Gobel Show", "The $64,000 Question", "Toast of the Town", "Lux Video Theatre", "Schlitz Playhouse of Stars", "Climax!", "Robert Montgomery Presents" and "The Ford Television Theatre." "The Comedy Spot" - July 19, 1960...a pilot called "Head of the Family" aired with Carl Reiner as Rob Petrie and a certain blonde playing his wife Laura. Later on the pilot would be re-worked and Dick Van Dyke and Mary Tyler Moore would step into those roles to form "The Dick Van Dyke Show." The role I will always remember her as will be Mrs. Pamela North on television & radio program "Mr. & Mrs. North" in which Richard Denning played her husband Jerry. The series was a light hearted mystery series which had humor and suspense. This version of the show ran in the early 1950's and also aired on television from 1952 to 1954 producing 56 episodes. The radio series ended on April 18, 1955...Richard & Frances Lockridge, the creators of the Mrs. North character were so impressed with the performance that they revealed in a later short story that Pamela North's maiden name was "Britton." (I learned this after reading the program guide that comes with the "Mr. & Mrs. North: Bet on Death" collection that was put out by radio spirits in 2008 and written by Jack French) She became well known as a spokesperson for Revlon Cosmetics. Her final acting role was as Fran Craig Gordon on the daytime soap opera "One Life to Live." She appeared from 1979 until her death in 1980... I didn't realize until I sat down to do my research that this lady would've turned 90 this year so...in honor of her great beauty, talent and what would've been her 90th year on Earth... In Memoriam Remembers: Barbara Britton
