Lloyd Bochner (July 29, 1924 - October 29, 2005)
Lloyd Bochner was an actor who just grabbed onto to the role of "suave sophisticated villain" and ran with it.
He stared on television in 1950 with a guest appearance on "Studio One" and followed that up appearances on "One Man's Family", "On the Spot", "Dr. Kildare", "The Dick Powell Show", "Perry Mason", "Bob Hope Presents the Chrysler Theatre", "Honey West", "Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea", "The Wild Wild West", "The Green Hornet", "The Girl From U.N.C.L.E.", "Death Valley Days", "Bonanza", "The Man From U.N.C.L.E.", "Hogan's Heroes", "Bewitched", "The F.B.I.", "The Debbie Reynolds Show", "The Virginian", "The Doris Day Show", "Emergency!", "Mission: Impossible", "Ironside", "Mannix", "The New Perry Mason", "Gunsmoke", "Cannon", "Police Story", "Medical Center", "Ellery Queen", "Barnaby Jones", "McCloud", "The Bionic Woman", "McMillan & Wife", "The Six Million Dollar Man", "The Amazing Spider-Man", "Charlie's Angels", "Trapper John, M.D.", "Hawaii Five-O", "Hart to Hart", "Vega$", "The Love Boat", "Fantasy Island", "The A-Team", "Hotel", "The Golden Girls", "Highway to Heaven", "Superboy", "Designing Women", "Who's the Boss?", "Murder, She Wrote", "Dr. Quinn: Medicine Woman", "Batman: The Animated Series" and "The New Batman Adventures."
In 1962 he appeared in one of the most popular episodes of "The Twilight Zone" entitled "To Serve Man." Bochner will always be remembered for uttering those famous frightened lines "It's a cookbook! It's a cookbook!"
In 1981 he joined the cast of the then new prime time soap opera "Dynasty." His role was that of Cecil Colby, head of ColbyCo a very successful and rich oil company. At first Cecil is presented as a friend to Blake Carrington (John Forsythe) but it is soon obvious that a deep rivalry and hatred exists between the two men. The battle only gets worse when Blake's ex-wife and Cecil's first love Alexis Morrell Carrington (Joan Collins) returns from years of exile. Cecil always accused Blake of stealing Alexis away from him and the two old lovers immediately unite to bring down Blake and his company Denver-Carrington. In one of the show's most famous scenes Cecil suffers a massive heart attack while in bed with Alexis and they later marry on his deathbed.
Bochner also appeared in a few films as well including "Landslide" and "Legend of the Mummy." In 1991's "The Naked Gun 2 1/2: The Smell of Fear" he is seen spoofing the famous scene from "To Serve Man" when runs around screaming "It's a Cookbook!"
He made his final acting appearance in 2003 in the film "The Commission."
Whether he was playing a crooked politician, a snobbish actor, an unsympathetic doctor, a murder suspect, Alexis Carrington's second husband or Gotham City's daffy Mayor Hill Lloyd Bochner found his own place in television history.
